Sony is the latest brand to be outed for posting a fake Internet site. "alliwantforxmasisapsp.com was ostensibly created by a PSP fan. On it he posted a video of a rap pleading for a psp, along with posts that included this one: "stick this ad in your girl's vogue cosmo people who live real simple or your dad's national maxim geographic sports for men. whoever, they'll get the point." Along with the post was a downloadable photo of the psp and a headline saying "This is Not an Ad", and Someone You Know Wants a PSP for Xmas."
Discovering that it was phony was like taking candy from a baby for bloggers who quickly discovered that the blog was registered under the agency's name, and the supposed fan turned out to be an agency employee pictured on the agency's site.
Shortly after the ruse was discovered Sony took the site down and apologized, sort of. A user produced a :50 video entitled "All I want for Xmas is a PSP, Sony's Failed Attempt at Viral Marketing."
Not smart, Sony. Not smart
