Are you familiar with “unschooling”? It’s a trend in home schooling that permits children to study whatever interests them; the child gets up at whatever time he wants and gets to do whatever he wants---all day. One child might watch cartoons, another child might play the piano, while another kid sits in front of a computer and searches Google for whatever interests her.
Now, granted, this is a relatively small group of kids. But it made me think about trends in education here in the U.S. and contrast them with some of the trends we’re seeing globally. And it makes me wonder how the U.S. will be different when these kids become adults---and how well they’ll be prepared to deal with it.
So---are these parents on to something? Or are they out of touch?
